Valentine’s Day Hot Chocolate with FREE Printables
14. January 2020Valentine’s Day…who needs it?!?! Well, candy makers do. Then florists. And most certainly the card companies. But does anyone actually care about Valentine’s Day? I can’t answer that question for YOU. But for me, I can say the only thing great about this made up day is chocolate. And I can (and do) eat that stuff any day.
So what could possibly be better than buying flowers, candy, or cards (for me)? Something homemade. And what if that something was also chocolaty? Winner winner chocolate dinner (hey, don’t eat chocolate for dinner). This Love Potion hot chocolate is super easy to make (not that you need to tell your significant other that). These cute jars contain 3 basic ingredients: powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. I use dark cocoa powder which tastes extra chocolaty. Use our FREE Printable Hang Tags & Labels to decorate your jar and impress your sweetheart.
This recipe is designed to fit into 4-oz Ball miniature storage jars. These cute jars look just like regular Ball pint jars, except they are miniaturized to fit into the palm of your hand. This jar is perfect for herbs and spice blends. If you don’t have the mini storage jars, you can use a regular 4-oz jelly jar. The 4-oz size makes TWO mugs of hot chocolate, one for you and one for your sweetie to share together. Because sharing is caring. Awwww.
LOVE POTION HOT CHOCOLATE
This recipe fits a 4-oz mini Ball storage jar & serves TWO people.
- 4 ½ tablespoons powdered sugar
- 2 ½ tablespoons dark cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4-oz mini Ball storage jar (or regular mouth 4-oz jelly jar)

Sift sugar & cocoa into a bowl. Add salt & combine. Put into a 4-oz mini Ball storage jar (or regular 4-oz jelly jar). There will be a little head space left in the jar too. You can add a few marshmallows, chocolate bits, or red hot candy to spice it up. Decorate your jar using our FREE Printable Hang Tags & Labels.
To serve, whisk contents into 12 ounces of hot milk or water. Serve between two mugs & share with your sweetie. Enjoy!
You can double the recipe to fit in an 8-oz jelly jar to serve four. The recipe calls for you to sift the powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Do you have to do that? No. The unsifted mix will just have a few lumps in it when packed in the jar. Hey, you aren’t perfect, so your hot cocoa doesn’t need to be either. Once the mix gets whisked into hot liquid, those lumps will dissipate anyway.
Use our FREE Printable Hang Tags & Labels to decorate your jar. These decorations have a great vintage look, none of that pink and red stuff, ick. So that means you can also use them year round for any celebration. Like National Chocolate Day or National Hot Chocolate Day (yes, apparently we need holidays for both).
